You know content creation is the key to building your brand, but no matter how hard you try you always feel like you’re trying to pat your head and rub your belly. The ideas don’t flow and your approach just feels scattergun. Not only that, you’ve realized just how much time you’ll have to devote to consistently creating content for your audience to devour.
These ideas will keep your creative juices flowing without monopolizing your time.
You don’t need a team to do this, just 30 minutes in a quiet room with no interruptions. Write a question at the top of a blank piece of paper and write anything that comes into your mind onto the sheet during the next 30 minutes. Even if it seems like a mad or bad idea, write it down. Put the sheet away and forget about it until tomorrow. Read it again and note down any ideas that you are excited about and want to develop further.
If you’re finding it difficult to get started it’s time to visit Dr Google. Look online at content already out there in your industry. Do you agree with what you see? Is the content out-of-date? Can you see a better solution to the one that’s been provided? Develop a piece of content that gives your viewpoint, updates an old philosophy or provides an easier of better solution. Let me be clear, no plagiarizing or stealing content. It has to be a new piece of content.
Not all your content has to be written and developed by you. Who do you know who writes consistently great content and has a great following? Ask them if they would like to guest write an article or develop a piece of content for one of your platforms. Be prepared to reciprocate!
Repurpose Your Content
Take time to read through your existing content. Blogs, for example, can be edited and collated to be delivered as e-books, Infographics, videos and audio content. A few tweaks could deliver at least 4 new channels to engage with your audience.
Visit Google Trends to find out what’s trending right now. Click on the three lines in the top left of the Google Trends screen. Select top charts, and the country you want to target. You’ll see the top trending news stories, sport, How To….? Or What Is….? articles amongst many other topics.
This will help you develop content that is relevant, newsworthy and on topic.
Taking Back Control
Allocate a specific time in your diary each day for researching, analyzing and producing great content. It’s an appointment that cannot be broken and one that should be set when you are at your most productive.
As the saying goes, you can only eat an elephant one bite at a time. Trying to accomplish too much in too short a space of time will lead to overwhelm and ultimately failure. Be realistic about what you can achieve with the resources you have available. It’s better to concentrate on delivering exceptional content on one platform than throwing out half-baked content across 3 or more platforms.
